Arizona's in the Top Ten!
- Low tobacco prevalence at 15%
- AZ is ranked lowest for exposure to second hand smoke in the home
- AZ is ranked lowest for exposure to second hand smoke in the workplace
- Tobacco prevalence among women is 5th lowest in the nation at less than 14%
- Tobacco use among pregnant women is lowest in the nation here in AZ at just over 6%
- Whereas many tobacco control programs have been obliterated by budget cuts, we continue to fund tobacco control efforts in our state
- Nationally, our state had the single highest drop in tobacco use since 2008
- AZ had the highest drop in heavy tobacco use among youth since 2008
Arizona Has the Lowest Cancer Rates in the U.S
But Many People are Diagnosed Too Late to Survive
Good news for Arizonans! Findings from a report by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) determined that Arizona's cancer incidence rates are the lowest in the nation. According to the United States Cancer Statistics (USCS) Incidence and Mortality Web-based Report (which compares the rates of cancer across 49 states, six metropolitan areas and the District of Columbia) Arizona ranks 50th and 49th in key categories.

March 23, 2011 is National Kick Butts Day!
Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism that empowers youth to speak out, stand up and seize control against Big Tobacco. KBD was developed sixteen years ago by Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids which is a leading force nationally in the fight to reduce tobacco use and its deadly toll in the United States and around the world. More than 1,000 events will take place nationally on March 23, 2011.

Calls to the ASHLine Up 50%
The Arizona Smokers' Helpline has seen a 50% increase in calls lately. The call center, located in Tucson, fields about 240 calls a week, compared to just 160 a week last year.
