To facilitate collaboration among public health, healthcare, pre-hospital entities, and various community partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from an emergency or disaster.


The Central Arizona Healthcare Coalition General Body consists of three counties (Gila, Maricopa, and Pinal) which are mostly a metropolitan area totaling 19,384 square miles with a population of 4,451,815. The General Body Coalition started meeting in 2008, and in 2012, new bylaws were approved which divided the general body into to four sectors —Central, Northeast, Southeast, and West, in an effort to provide a management process that would create a mechanism for enhancing membership from other health system partners, aside from the traditional acute care hospitals. The Central region Coalition contains Arizona's two CRI (Cities Readiness Initiative) Communities, and it is home to four major sports arenas, a large university, other colleges, major tourist destinations, two interstate highways and multiple state highways, and several medical facilities such as:

  • Six level I trauma centers
  • Seven burn care hospitals
  • Two infectious disease referral centers
  • Twelve pediatric services hospitals, and
  • Five Community Health Centers with multiple satellite clinics
