Arizona Medical Marijuana Program

ID Card Verification – Law Enforcement

The Arizona Department of Health Services will accept Dispensary Registration Certificate applications in late 2015. There will be more information forthcoming regarding which, and the number of CHAA's that will be available.

When accessing the Card Verification System, enter in the cardholder's card number to see the cardholder's name and card status. The new verification system will also allow only those individuals with Law Enforcement access to see "…the amount of marijuana that each registered qualifying patient received from nonprofit medical marijuana dispensaries during the past sixty days" (Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS) §36-2807(C)(2)).

NOTE: Medical Marijuana Registry Identification cards are now printed with colored bars distinguishing each card type:

  • Qualifying Patient – Yellow
  • Designated Caregiver – Red
  • Dispensary Agent – Blue

ADHS will begin printing the new cards with colored bars on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. Please note that ADHS will not be re-printing existing cards with the new color scheme. Cardholders will receive this new card when and if a new card is issued after May 8, 2013.

Medical Marijuana Registry Identification Cards for Qualifying Patient and Caregivers show information about the authorization of the cardholder to cultivate marijuana. At the time a card is issued, if the Qualifying Patient requested to cultivate and there was no operating dispensary within 25 miles of the Qualifying Patient's residential address, the request would be granted. The authorization to cultivate does not change while the current card remains active, unless the cardholder requests a change in the cultivation status.

Medical Marijuana Registry Identification Cards do not always expire on the expiration date printed on the card. In general, a card will remain ACTIVE if the cardholder has initiated a process to renew the card before the card's expiration date.

If the cardholder has applied for a renewal of a Qualifying Patient Registry Identification Card, this card will remain ACTIVE until the processing of the renewal application is complete.

If a Qualifying Patient has designated a Caregiver, the Designated Caregiver Registry Identification Card for this patient will also remain ACTIVE until the processing of the related patient's renewal application is complete.
