Loan Repayment Awards – Prioritization

Service sites will be prioritized for loan repayment awards based upon the total priority level score achieved. Sites will be assigned points on the basis of the following criteria/indicators:

  • Location of the service site
    • Rural = 4
    • Non-Rural = 0
  • Degree-of-shortage (DOS) as federally assigned by the Office of Designations at the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (DHHS, HRSA)
    • DOS of 1 = 4
    • DOS of 2 = 3
    • DOS of 3 = 2
    • DOS of 4 = 1
  • Population-to-primary-care-provider ratio point (based on the most current Primary Care Index)
  • Percentage of minority population (based on most recent Primary Care Index)
    • >50% = 4
    • 40-50% = 3
    • 30-39% = 2
    • 20-29% = 1
    • <20% = 0
  • Distance from next nearest provider
    • >45 = 4
    • <45 = 0

Sites will be assigned a priority rank of 1, 2, or 3 based on the total priority level score for which the loan repayment award will be based upon. A maximum of 26 points is possible.

  • Priority 1 – 18 to 26 points
  • Priority 2 – 9 to 17 points
  • Priority 3 – ≤8 points
