Emergency Medical Services – Stroke Care

On April 12, 2011, Governor Brewer signed HB2157 (Laws 2011, Chapter 47), which requires the Department to "adopt rules relating to the coordination of stroke care services between emergency medical services providers and hospitals." The Department has exempt rulemaking authority until July 2013 to comply with these requirements. The Department is making the rules to comply with Laws 2011, Ch. 47 in Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) Title 9, Chapter 25, Article 6.

The Department completed a draft of the rules and accepted comments on the substance of the rules from the end of December, 2012, until March 1, 2013, through an online survey. To ensure that the public had notice of the opportunity for reviewing and commenting on the draft rules, the Department also submitted a Notice of Public Information for publication in the February 1, 2013, issue of the Arizona Administrative Register. The comments and the Department's responses are provided.

The Department has developed a Notice of Exempt RulemakingPDF and submitted the Notice to the Office of the Secretary of State for publication in the Arizona Administrative Register. The effective date of the rules is the date the Notice was published, April 5, 2013.
