ADVANCED ISSUES IN CLINICAL LACTATION PRACTICE
RNs: 30 Contact Hours; RDs: 30; IBCLCs: 30L CERPs; College Credits: 3; Can be used towards CLC recertification
This course explores a holistic theoretical basis for integrating breastfeeding, human lactation and lactation management practice into models of understanding maternal role assumption, gender role, infant development, and ethics. Participants are asked to bring case histories for class discussion. Collegial multidisciplinary workgroups will be established to examine and develop solutions to complex case studies. This training program requires participants to have attended a 40 hour course in breastfeeding (i.e. CLC, CLE, IBCLC).

Healthy Children Project-Center for Breastfeeding
This research and competency based lactation management training provides:
- Comprehensive breastfeeding management training
- Practical skills that will make you more effective in your job
- Time-saving hospital strategies that make breastfeeding a success
- Strategies and tips for special circumstances - preemies, Down Syndrome, newborns affected by medications, and more
- How to talk to mothers in a way that encourages them to choose breastfeeding
- Public Health/WIC strategies that work to increase breastfeeding success
- Confidence building knowledge and skills
Inherent in this training program is a counseling approach: this program trains participants how to gain insight into clients' problems, with a strong focus on counseling skills. This course is based on the World Health Organization/UNICEF 40 hour curriculum - an overview of what all health professionals who work with mothers and babies should know about breastfeeding.
The CLC offers continuing education credits for RNs (45 contact hours through ANCC), RDs (45 CPEUs through CDR), IBCLCs (45.0L CERPs through IBLCE) and Nurse-Midwives (3.9 CEUs through ACNM).

The Baby Blues: Myths and Realities
This seminar will discuss the myths and realities of baby blues and post partum depression. If women know the physical and psychological changes that can result in postpartum depression it can greatly improve their ability to identify and seek proper treatment.
On-site childcare will be available at Kidz Klubhouse for $5 per child per hour.
