The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) recognizes the importance of early intervention and treatment of dental disease in infants. Primary, or "baby," teeth are important for many reasons. Not only do they help children speak clearly and chew, they also help guide adult teeth into their proper place. If there is tooth decay in baby teeth, it can easily lead to tooth decay in adult teeth.

The ADHS Bureau of Oral Health aims to raise awareness of the importance of early oral health care. The 2008 “Dental Visit by Age 1” campaign will arm parents and caregivers with the knowledge and power they need to protect their children from oral disease, and enlist the help of the pediatricians and dentists across Arizona to help spread the word about proper pediatric dental care.
