Passing Germs to Your Baby

Are You Passing Tooth Decay to Your Baby?
  • Tooth decay is caused by germs and is an infection. It is the most common chronic infection in children and is 5 times more common than asthma.

  • Babies do not have the germs that cause tooth decay when they are born. They must get them from someone else.

  • If you have tooth decay, you can pass these germs to your baby when you taste baby’s food or lick the pacifier. The more tooth decay you have, the more germs you will have and the more likely you will pass it to your baby.

  • Tooth decay in baby teeth can mean a lifetime of tooth decay.
