Arizona State Hospital

Visiting Patients

The Hospital would like to provide you with some information we hope will be helpful in maintaining your relationship with your family member while he or she is here.

The unit social worker will be your primary contact. With the permission of the patient the social worker will keep you informed of your loved one's progress, emergencies, and discharge plans and invite you to attend treatment planning sessions with the treatment team.

We know Hospital visits can be stressful, especially if you don't know what to do. We would like to give you some tips that will help you have a successful and enjoyable time when the patient has been approved for visits or to go on outings with you./p>

Security officers will be at the guard station to check you in when you arrive. They will give you a Visitor's pass and check all items you bring into the hospital. We have very strict guidelines about what can come on the unit because there are many things that may be used in a destructive or harmful manner.

Security may assign you a locker if it is necessary to store any restricted items (contraband). You may pick them up when you leave the Hospital. If you have questions about restricted items, ask staff before bringing anything to the Hospital for your family member.

When the patient has been approved for outings or visits home they are under your supervision and care, and they need to remain with you as they are your responsibility during this period of time. As a reminder, please do not have any alcohol, drugs, or weapons in the household during the visits. If you have any questions or problems during the visit please do not hesitate to call the unit at any time.
